Meet the Crew
Ruger was adopted by Heather. He started his career in the grooming business as a receptionist, and now, he is the C.E.O. of Rogers Bark Pet Salon, LLC. You can usually find him sleeping in his office or somewhere near the treat bowl.

As a second generation groomer, Valerie grew up in grooming shops, alongside her mother. She learned to train and compete with her Standard Poodle Java in AKC Junior Handling at age 12. At age 17, she enrolled at the Great Lakes Grooming Academy to get formal training from the award-winning groomers Meggan Murphy and Jeanne Mulcahy. She graduated from the Great Lakes Grooming Academy in 2001, where she eventually became an instructor for several years. Now, Valerie is an award-winning, competitive groomer in the top level of competition, along with being a seminar speaker at grooming shows. She was nominated for the national awards “Up and Coming Groomer of the Year” in 2014 and “Up and Coming Speaker of the Year” in 2015. Valerie has shown Standard Poodles and Lakeland Terriers, and she is currently showing her own Kerry Blue Terrier. She has been mentored by AKC show handlers on Poodles, Lakeland Terriers, Wire-haired Dachshunds, and Kerry Blue Terriers. Valerie is also Canine CPR certified and published in Groomer to Groomer magazine.
She owns three dogs: Erik and Willie, both Lakeland Terriers, and Forrest Gump who is a Kerry Blue Terrier. She also has an 8-year-old son named Wyatt.
Sydney started at Rogers Bark as a receptionist in May of 2017. She grew up in South Carolina with a Collie named Rocky. Now, she lives in Chicago with her husband and 3 cats named Carrie, Kitty, and Lulu. Sydney is currently attending Loyola University Chicago for her Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Journalism. She also works at Oyster Bah in Lincoln Park, walks for Wag!, and tutors at the Loyola Writing Center on the side. At Rogers Bark, Sydney has trained as a bather in addition to being a receptionist. She also helps with the website and marketing materials. Her favorite parts about working at Rogers Bark are getting to know all of the dogs that come in and seeing the happy faces of the owners when their dog leaves the shop looking and smelling their best!
Samantha (Sam) has been a certified bather since 2015. She has worked at Rogers Bark since 2017. She has a son named Anthony, who is almost 2 years old. She also has a 3-year-old Shih Tzu mix named Skippy, a 15-year-old pitbull named Tigger, and a 2-year-old pig named Moo. Sam enjoys cooking, spending time with her family, and being around animals of all kinds. In the future, Sam would like to continue working with animals while also being a pastry chef. Her favorite part about working at Rogers Bark is being able to give the dogs a spa day. She loves getting to know each individual dog as they are all so different. Regardless of their differences, they all make her smile.

Tyler joined the Rogers Bark staff in the spring of 2018. He brings with him over half a decade of experience in dog training. He is a graduate of the Anti-Cruelty Society’s School of Dog Training and has apprenticed under and worked for some outstanding trainers around Chicago. Tyler lives in the neighborhood with his dog Biscuits and is now pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology while working for Rogers Bark as a receptionist and a bather. Even outside of training class Tyler is happy to talk to you about any training needs or similar questions you might have!
